Viktoria Hristova – Biography

Viktoria Hristova – Bulgarian musician, singer, pianist, ethnomusicologist. She is born in Pleven – Town in western Bulgaria. Nowadays lives in Sofia.
Viktoria started with classic piano since she was four years old and she became a student at SMU “P. Pipkov” – Pleven. The next twelve years she studies classic music.
Viktoria is growing up in a family of musicians, who works mostly in the field of Bulgarian folk music. Her mother – Radka Hristova was a singer and teacher of folk singing in the same school. Her father – Veselin Hristov is a rebec player and master of traditional Bulgarian folk instruments. Her affinity to Bulgarian folk music was naturally inhered from her parents and from the environment that she is growing up. Although she is studying classic piano, all the years until now she claims her interest in this matter. In her professional activity, she is still practicing Bulgarian folk music. She sings that kind of songs since she was a child and continues until now.
Viktoria gets her higher education in National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” – Sofia. Her Bachelor’s degree is in “Music pedagogy”. The Bulgarian folklore is also taking part because she is writing the theme “Bulgarian ritual practices in the composer’s work of Ivan Valev”. Viktoria is getting deeper in this matter and she gets the next two degrees – Master and PhD in “Ethnomusicology” with the themes: “The ritual practices in the settings of Mitko Ivanov – founder and director of the first ensemble for authentic folklore” and “Creative achievements of Kremena Stancheva and the Mystery of Bulgarian Voices”. In the same period she is publishing articles in periodic editions, taking part in seminars and scientific conferences. She is organizing a competition for folk singers “Folk festival – Radka Chipilska” in Rozovetz – the birthplace of her mother.
Since 2012 until now Viktoria works with PhD students from different universities and academies (from Bulgaria and other countries). She is organizing scientific conference in the National Academy of Music in Sofia. In addition, she is an editor and compiler of a repertory with the reports from the conference.
Since 1996, Viktoria Hristova’s professional carrier is growing successfully as a performer of Pop, Jazz, Rock, Latin, Russian, French, Bulgarian music and Balkan modern hits (Greek, Macedonian, Serbian and Turkish music). She is taking part in different music formations (bands) in Bulgaria and abroad. Periodically she is a guest in different forums like concerts, fairs, TV shows and other private productions, also related with folk music. The last few years she works as a singer in different piano bars all around the country.
In the period 2012 – 2014 Viktoria is a member of the section “Folk music” in Bulgarian National Radio. She is an author and presenter of a few broadcasting in the line “Pure water” of the program Hristo Botev like “Folk music chart”, “Folk party” and other.
In 2006, Viktoria manages Paradise Wedding Agency, where she is a partner. Along with the music performing on weddings, she is taking part in organization of different kind of events: weddings, anniversaries, proms, corporate events and other kinds of celebrations. She is also making festive decorations for special moments like weddings, baby births, children parties and other.
In the moment of creating the platform “Bulgarian Folk Music for Non-folkloric Musicians”, Viktoria Hristova is 34 years old.
